Why Wet Feet Ministries?
The American culture for generations has advocated for a person to pursue one’s dream, “the American dream.” The result of this promotion has led generations to spend their time and efforts in achieving financial prosperity and all the things one should acquire that tout this achievement. This prosperity of money and possessions are not in and of themselves wrong. But, when all of a person’s or society’s time and effort is consumed with the means by which these achievements are accomplished, and therefore leave no time for God, then it has become idolatry. The “dream” and the pursuit of it has taken over our hearts and minds leading souls straight to hell in spite of whether one does church for an hour on Sunday or not. The consequences of this sin have been detrimental now for generations as we watch America devolve into a Godless society.
Implicitly or explicitly, children have been taught at least partly by their parents that the most important relationship in their lives is with those that promote their own dream. Ironically, a child often does not even view their own parents' relationships among those most important to them. These children grow up to become parents whose secondary idolic pursuit in life is the dream they have for their children which often is their own dream projected onto their children. They submit their children to the most intensive training in the field or fields of their choice viewed as culturally successful as the means to achieve their dreams. While the time, effort and money generated by a family is consumed by pursuit of their dreams there is little or no time for God. That is if the family claims to be Christian at all. Don’t miss this point. The effects of this “pursuit of the dream” religion can be the same whether or not a family acts like they are Christian and attends church or never attends church at all.
The consequences of this “dream” religion are numerous particularly as it pertains to the institutions of man’s volition for God, marriage and family. The divorce rate has been near 50% for decades, Christian and non-Christian alike. But, the rate of divorce has actually declined slightly in the past two decades due to the declining rate of marriages in the first place. Marriage no longer holds a place of prominence in our culture. Currently, about 40% percent of births in America are to unmarried women. Even if a person or couple desires to be married, they often have a very poor concept of what marriage should be from a biblical worldview. The divisiveness in families and the decay of marriage has had a lasting impact on children's lives as they mature into adulthood. Biblical discipleship of christians and their children is a thing of the past. The legacy born out of this is further separation from God. Now, our culture promotes the following: fornication, idolatry, adultery, homosexuality, gender confusion, theft, covetousness, drunkenness, extortion, etc. The Bible says those who practice these will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Jennifer and Mitchell Smith felt a pressing need to have an impact on families in a Godly way. Wet Feet Ministries was created to serve marriages and families by teaching them what God says about his creation of marriage and family and the importance of its preservation and to aid parents in discipling one another and their children. We also have a heart for missions and recognize the need for spreading the gospel and the benefits to marriage and family sustainability when a family serves others in need thereby setting aside self and loving their neighbor.
